ADOLFO HOHENSTEIN (1842-1928) [HORSE RACE]. Circa 1901. 55x40 1/2 inches. Regionale, Nice. Condition B+: repaired tears in margins; minor restoration in image. His prominence in Italy led Hohenstein to receive a handful of commissions from other countries. Here, to advertise the ever-popular aristocratic sport of horse racing, he employs his brilliant sense of composition and movement to depict three jockeys in the heat of a race. Although this is a stock poster, very few other copies are known to exist. One of those copies, overprinted in Italian, advertises a race in Nice in 1901.
